And the Grammy goes to...
I have a little story to update some news in college life!
So I am currently in a choir here at BYU-I. It was a non audition choir so it's pretty low key but fun! I love the director and we do some pretty neat songs and get to sing at devotionals and stuff like that.
Next month is our first concert and one of the songs we're singing is a BEAUTIFUL arrangement of "O My Father". In this particular arrangement there is a solo verse, and our choir teacher lets us know that she'll be holding auditions for it. At first I think, "Hey, that would be fun! I like to sing!" then I thought, "Wait a second this is college, not high school...how about I keep the embarrassment to a minimum." I also hate auditioning in front of the class because I feel like the auditionees are just trying to show off...I did NOT want to be a show off to the college crowd.
But something nudged me to try it, so I did.
I got to the front of the class and immediately said a prayer to just be able to sing and get the message of the words through more than just having a pretty voice.
I started singing and I felt like I did pretty good. The director said, "wow, that was really good." So that made me feel better, but after listening to the others I knew it was curtains for me. But to my surprise I made callbacks! She asked me and a few other girls to sing again.
When I sang the second time she stopped and asked me to work more on my vibrato (critiques are a good sign in auditions because it means they are considering you!)
I sang again and she stopped for a second and said, "I don't know if I'll get through this song without crying."
To make a long story short, I GOT THE SOLO! Well not the whole thing, she decided to slit the verse with me and one other girl. I truly felt that I was being helped while singing.
I went up to her afterwords to thank her and she told me that she had a powerful spiritual experience while I sang, so she knew it had to be me. Then I knew, that it wasn't my singing, rather someone was helping me to get the message of the song out, just the thing I asked for.

Guilty Pleasures...
My roomates and I have found some pretty amazing little blips on the internet that at midnight when you've got a couple hours to go and you need SOMETHING to smile about...you turn to these gems.
Item A: The ninja
There are countless others of the ninja but this one specifically gives you that extra smile you need to carry on. (When you get time watch the whole thing because there's really no way to pick a favorite part.)
Item B: Debbie Downer
http://www.buzznet.com/tags/debbiedowner/video/
With this one it's all pretty funny but the funniest part starts at minute 3. So if you decide you need the extra happiness, as I have, skip to 3:16 so you don't feel like you're wasting as much time... Oh and if you don't find this as funny as I do, remind yourself I was watching this while I was a liiiiiiiiitle punchy.
I hope these videos can bring you as much joy as they have my apartment...we've had some good times...

Miracles!
The next day after most of my classes I had to finish an essay for a class I had later. When I finished my essay I thought..."What the hey! I'll just try my printer. Maybe it just needed a night to acclimate to Idaho." I turned it on, plugged it in to my computer and lo and behold it starts printing the page that I had tried to print yesterday...I actually had tears of joy in my eyes. Then I printed the essay I needed for that day and out with the essay paper came a little sliver of styrofoam popcorn that was apparently lodged in there somewhere. When I was on the phone with dad I NEVER would have been able to find it...
So coincedentally, only after I said the prayer the very next time I used my printer, out came the pesky styrofoam that had caused all my problems. Funny Huh?
Moral of the story: say your prayers and don't use styrofoam popcorn to ship a printer.

Life and Times
I finally got my schedule all worked out and I'm pretty happy with it. My classes are: French 102 four days a week. The teacher is pretty cool but this is probably the hardest class I've ever taken. I've never had so many tests before. I might die because of this class but the rest of my class feels the same way so that makes me feel better.
Religion 121 is Book of Mormon and I love it!!!! Awesome teacher! It's quite a bit different that seminary but it's so much fun! Lots of work but it doesn't really feel like work.
Science...it's an ok class. The teacher usually gives us a lot of reading for homework and usually one of the articles we have to read is from a general authority so that's pretty cool. Class is usually pretty boring but the homework is interesting.
Writing is pretty good. The class is an hour and a half from 5:15 - 6:45 so that kinda sucks. The teacher is pretty funny but again class can get real boring real fast. So far, however, I like the work. Essays have interesting topics and good reading and such.
Art 102 is definitely one of my favorite classes. It's a two hour class but it's awesome. I love all that I'm learning (a lot already) and the TAs (who pretty much teach the class) are really cool. I'm excited for what I'm gonna learn there.
Then last but not least is Women's Glee! kind of a beginning choir but it's fun. The choir director reminds me A LOT of Kate Hudsen just the way she talks and her mannerisms. She's pretty awesome.
I don't have any pictures because my computer won't let me upload any pictures until I install something special so I have to call some tech support number for that and get it all straightened out.
ALSO AWESOME my printer finally came buuuuuuuuuut it doesn't work. I was on the phone with my dad for about an hour trying to figure things out to no avail. If anyone has any ideas let me know because I'm out, and I'm gonna have to call another tech support number to fix this one (which will, of course, be awesome).
Other than the technical things...life it pretty good. I'm pretty much busy all the time but for the most part I like the work so that's good!
I'm trying to be better on the blogging...but college is taking up most of my time these days.

So long my ridiculously long locks...

So I went to get it cut and I brought in my picture...really it was only supposed to be like 5-6 inches shorter. Then she asked if I wanted to donate it. I have always wanted to do that but I've been too chicken to cut my hair so short, but anyway, this time I decided to do it. In order to donate it I think it has to be 10 inches...so my cut came out like this...

and I really like it!!! So anyway... just the latest bit of exciting news!
p.s. sorry I'm so bad a blogging....

Bum ba dah dum bum bum BUM!
Let's start with the General Conference trip. A couple weekends ago I went with my Young Women on a very long car trip to UTAH! We got to go to both Saturday sessions. I think my favorite part of this trip was being apart of the solemn assembly. Definitely a once in a lifetime experience.
This is a view of the temple from the conference center, and I just like this picture.
One of my favorite a Capella groups, Eclipse, was performing at the Joseph Smith building when we went there! I got a picture with them but it was taken on my friend's camera which was recently stolen, so that's a bummer.
I really didn't get a lot of pictures conference weekend because every time you whip out a camera in the conference center some official barks at you. We Young Women were quite afraid of these people.
Now to move on to the next weekend which was my weekend in NEW YORK! Every year my choir class does a tour and this year we decided to try New York. I'm was in 3 of the choirs that competed and our Women's Ensemble won 1st Place Gold which was very exciting. Honors Choir and Show Choir (the other choirs I'm in) both took 3rd Place Silver which is still pretty good. Those two choirs are "lunch time choirs" meaning the only time we practice is at lunch. Really we only got to rehearse about 1 hour a week, so for doing as good as we did is pretty exciting!
Now for the pictures!
Just a little bit of Broadway
Me and my roommate Kourtney after being awake for 24 hours (we took a red eye and didn't even get to the hotel until about 10. So literally we had been awake for about 26 hours) and our hotel keys weren't working.
The view from our hotel room
bffs
This is the firehouse of the first firemen who arrived at the twin towers. Every one of them were killed so the firehouse is now a memorial.
cool view of the streets
I'm a photographer (?)
This was the craziest church I've ever seen. Inside was insane, it reminded me of The Da Vinci Code.
These are the UFO's from Men in Black
buildings to infinitly
lady liberty
This is the church our competition was in.
Us on the cruse (this is a really attractive picture of all of us.)
So that's not all the pictures but a lot of them need to be turned to be right side up and my computer isn't letting me do that right now. I'll post a separate one with those pictures. ANYWAY there you go! I'll try to keep up on my blogging better but getting closer to the end of the year is getting pretty crazy. I'll try my best!
